This page provides a brief Introduction to the Security Startup Self-diagnostic Tool (SSST). The tool will ask you a series of questions regarding security related issues, and then prepare a preliminary security status review based on your answers. The questions are based on the new IMO security regulations for ships and port facilities.

The tool is simple and easy to use. You can access the tool right now by Creating an Account and LOGGING IN, or if you would like more details on how the program works, you can find them here. You can click on the underlined terms to see detailed definitions. You may also find it helpful to print this page for later reference while using the tool. Click here to print this page.

The numbered steps shown in the left-hand frame correspond to the eight (8) steps required to complete the SSST. The colored bars show the step you're currently on (Red), as well as the steps you've already completed (Blue).

Terms Used on this Page:

Area of Interest:
The Area of Interest you select determines the type and quantity of questions you will be asked in Step 6. The IMO security regulations currently apply to ships and port facilities. After selecting the area you are interested in, including ships, port facilities or both, the program will ask the appropriate questions. You will also be provided with some advice if you are not interested in either ships or port facilities. Back

Comments:
If desired, you may enter specific comments to clarify or augment your response to each of the questions in Step 6. All comments entered will be provided, along with your responses, to the maritime security analysts who will prepare your security status review. You are strongly encouraged to use this feature since it will significantly improve the quality of your review. Back

First Report:
The first report is sent to you immediately upon successful completion of the SSST. The report includes a cover letter from the TT Club, along with two enclosures:

Enclosure (1) is a summary of your responses, categorized by specific functional areas.

Enclosure (2) is a listing of the individual questions, as well as your response to each. For your reference, the regulatory basis for each question is provided. Back

Regulations:
This self-diagnostic tool currently covers the new IMO regulations contained in SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. These regulations apply to certain ships and port facilities that engage in international trade. Back

Report Name:
The name you use to identify your report will be used to track your answers to the online questionnaire. By uniquely identifying each report, you will be able to return to the same report in the future and complete, update, or modify it. If you have previously started a report, the report name(s) will show up in a list from which you may select the appropriate report. You may also create new and additional reports using distinct report names. Each report is saved with a password assigned by the user. No one may access a report you created without the password you supplied, even if they access the TT Club Online Services web page using the same User Name. Back

Responses:
The possible responses are shown for each question. Most questions are YES or NO. When appropriate, you may also choose to respond “Unknown” or “Not Applicable.” Some questions also provide added responses, ranging from Never to Always, with three intermediate points in between (Rarely, Sometimes and Usually). Back

Second Report:
The second report will be sent to you within approximately five working days. The report includes a more detailed letter from the TT Club, along with two enclosures:

Enclosure (1) is a detailed listing of the questions and your responses, along with specific comments and recommendations provided by HudsonTrident.

Enclosure (2) is a graphical representation of the areas in which your security program is considered compliant, as well as those areas that need more attention. Back

Security Questions:
The questions you are asked in Step 6 are all based on the regulations contained in SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The questions are typically a restatement of the regulations. In some cases, individual questions combine the requirements found in several regulations. The questions are worded such that “YES/Always” is the preferred response. Back

Tutorial:
The screen for Step 6 has two main parts: 1) the Questions and 2) the Responses. The top box displays the question. To answer the question, click on the radial button beside the most appropriate response.

The responses for most questions include YES, NO, Unknown and Not Applicable. A few questions also provide additional responses, ranging from Never to Always, with three intermediate points (Rarely, Sometimes and Usually). After selecting your response, press PROCEED to advance to the next question.

A “progress indicator” displays the current question number and the total number of questions in the question set. The progress indicator allows you to keep track of how many questions you have answered thus far and how many questions remain.

Use of the Regulations/Advice and Comments boxes is optional. Initially blank, the Regs/Advice box may be used to display a summary of the Regulations upon which the question is based or to display the Advice text (if available). The blue buttons control which item is displayed.

If desired, you may enter comments to clarify or augment your response. This feature allows you to add specific notes to describe your particular circumstances. All comments entered in Step 6 will be forwarded with your responses to the security analysts who will review your answers.

For your convenience, you may print a worksheet to get an advance look at all the questions. This worksheet may be used to record your answers in advance. Back
